Down the Line

How many times have you heard “Obedience is better than sacrifice”?   1 Samuel 15:22 KLV “And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams”.  This is such a heavy scripture.  It is easy to repeat but when is the last time you have taken a moment to think ‘what are we really sacrificing’ when we disobey God?  It is not always something in the moment. If a promise is made with the assurance that it will bless generations to come, what is the opposite of that?

As a mother of three, I think about my children and their now as well as their future.  I think about the decisions my husband and I make and when we sit down to have conversations about those decisions or ponder of possibilities we talk about how that effects our children.  We know that our words and actions do not just play a part in their now but their future as well.

Genesis 9:9 KJV Says “And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;” In other words this will bless your lineage, your namesake.  This that I have promised you carries beyond just your life span.  In addition, back then, the life span was more than 60-70 years of age.  Imagine God coming to you and laying some rules and regulations regarding your life before you and concluding the conversation with “This is for your entire family and those to come”.  Does that change your mindset?  Do you go about life differently?

Today there is a heavy concentration on Generational Wealth.  This is not necessarily regarding finances, but the teaching and way of thinking that benefits and blesses your life and those that are to come after you.  In some families, the focus might be on a healthier lifestyle.  Knowing your family history is so important.  How do you know what you are working to prevent if you have no knowledge of what ‘runs’ in your family?  Without that knowledge, there is no initiative to make consistent changes to help prevent certain familial traits. If high cholesterol runs in the family and it has been known for the last three generations on your father’s side of the family there are questions that should be asked.  Were there any dietary concerns?  Did they have an active lifestyle on a regular basis?  There are so many factors that should be considered, and when you add it all up and go forth with a plan to do better, you are creating generational wealth.

In the process of creating generational wealth, we are breaking generational curses.  In the process of teaching generational wealth, we are creating more time and space for ministry.  When our minds and emotions are not scattered and given to all of life’s normal day to day concerns, it is easier to do and be in the will of God.  We ultimately have fewer distractions.  We can focus on Him.  We can focus on His word.  We can focus on our purpose.
