Target Practice

At the beginning of every year, it has become customary to make all of these goals for the New Year. Some people make fitness goals or make plans to improve and change their diet. Some decide to map out a different financial goal for the year. With these goals comes a need to have something in place to help us/them along the way. If it is a fitness goal, you might sign up for a membership at your local gym. If you are meal prepping you might go out and purchase containers to make it easier to achieve your goal. Vision boards have become extremely popular and people even have parties where they gather with friends and collectively talk about their goals and plans for the year.

Habakkuk 2:2 KJV,
And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Imagine taking the time to plan not just your year but to assist your friends in doing the same. Not only are you aiding in the success of others but also you are collecting accountability partners along the way. The necessity of this entire process is not just for a good time but also to have a starting point for various things in your life. It is easy to brush over your hopes and goals and as the days and months go by it can become easier to not have a clear vision of your goals if not for a reminder. Becoming intentional and doing things on purpose is so very rewarding. I personally do not make an entire Vision Board each year but I do take the time to pray about at least one word that I am going to carry throughout the year. I choose a word that is going to be the fuel behind my every intention and goal for the next 12 months. There are times where that one word carries into the next year. Taking control over your plans, your goals, your ministry, your crafts and hobbies, your family time, your finances, your mental and physical health is a day-to-day exercise. There is no requirement for perfection, just a solid commitment to keep moving forward. Essentially, we are always moving forward but now we can do it with purpose and on purpose.

Not every goal has to do with acquiring things or taking trips. At some point there should be some internal goals posted in plain view so that as you are maneuvering through your days you begin to see some changes in the way you think or perhaps care for people. Maybe reading your word daily is a struggle or you feel that you are not reading long enough. Nowadays there are different Bible apps and those have reading plans that are categorized by life events. We live in a day and age where there is an enormous number of tools readily available at our fingertips. It really is up to us to just start with something.

Proverbs 29:18 KJV
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

God’s word encourages us to have vision for our life and to make plans as opposed to wandering through life going wherever the wind may blow. Have goals and visions. Have your mind and heart set on things for your life and your family. Pray over your goals and your dreams. As you spend more time doing this it becomes easier and so much more rewarding because eventually you will notice a shift. It will change from being a chore and daunting task to Dream Building! You will find yourself becoming excited about setting new goals because you know that you are capable. Once you narrow down your ‘why’ your goal becomes that much easier. Write it down, aim for it and hit your mark!
